About the Role
The Salesforce Marketing Cloud Content Creator will support alumni, donor, and stakeholder engagement across the University of Tennessee System. This role reports to the Director of Digital Strategy & Innovation and will be responsible for creating, editing, and deploying email campaigns in Salesforce Marketing Cloud, ensuring that email communications, automations, and customer journeys are brand-compliant and optimized for engagement.
This role requires experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud, HTML/CSS for email design, email automation workflows, and performance analysis. It also involves collaboration with internal teams to ensure email campaigns align with the university’s communication goals while adhering to best practices in accessibility and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Email Design & Deployment
- Build, edit, and send email campaigns through Salesforce Marketing Cloud while following branding and messaging guidelines.
- Design and maintain email templates with a focus on mobile responsiveness, accessibility, and user experience.
- Develop and test automation workflows, including complex journeys, transactional emails, and triggered communications.
- Troubleshoot email-related issues, such as rendering, audience segmentation, and personalization.
Quality Assurance & Process Management
- Conduct comprehensive QA testing for email campaigns to ensure accuracy before deployment.
- Maintain and refine QA checklists and documentation to improve workflow efficiency.
- Work with team members to ensure correct implementation of data extensions, segmentation, and personalization rules.
Performance Analysis & Reporting
- Track email performance metrics (open rates, click-through rates, conversions, etc.) and provide actionable insights.
- Develop A/B testing strategies for subject lines, calls-to-action, content layout, and other key elements.
- Generate reports to assess campaign effectiveness and suggest improvements.
Compliance & Collaboration
- Ensure emails follow industry best practices for accessibility (e.g., WCAG compliance) and comply with CAN-SPAM and GDPR regulations.
- Act as a subject matter expert on Salesforce Marketing Cloud, advising on platform capabilities and improvements.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 2+ years of experience in email marketing and campaign management, with platform-specific execution.
- Proficiency in Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
- Knowledge of HTML/CSS for email design.
- Experience with QA processes and troubleshooting in email marketing.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Understanding of email accessibility and compliance best practices.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.
- Proficiency in analyzing campaign metrics and making data-driven recommendations.
Candidates with a graduate degree must have at least 1 year of experience.
Preferred
- Master’s degree.
- 3+ years of experience in email marketing (higher education or nonprofit experience is a plus).
- Certification in Salesforce Marketing Cloud or a similar email marketing platform.
- Advanced knowledge of Salesforce Marketing Cloud (Content Builder, Journey Builder, Email Studio).
- Strong editing and proofreading skills with attention to brand consistency.
- Experience optimizing email automation workflows to improve engagement.
- Demonstrated success in A/B testing and performance optimization.
